Tampa Utilities: Bill Pay, Login, Phone Number & Service Help 2026
City of Tampa, Florida • Water, wastewater & solid waste customer guide
Need to pay a City of Tampa Utilities bill, register for the Customer Self-Service Portal, start water service, handle a high bill or restore water after non-payment? Start with the exact task below rather than searching through several City departments.
One important distinction: City of Tampa Utilities mainly bills water, wastewater and eligible solid waste service. Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas are separate providers, and some Tampa-area addresses receive different services from Hillsborough County or another utility.
Tampa Utilities Quick Answers
The City’s current payment page lists Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover for online and phone payment with no convenience fee.
Do not wait until late evening if the account is close to a final-notice or interruption deadline.
After a non-payment shutoff, pay the overdue balance and call 813-274-8811 during business hours to arrange restoration.
How to Pay a City of Tampa Utility Bill
The fastest payment route is usually the Customer Self-Service Portal or the City’s 24-hour automated phone system. Mail works for non-urgent bills; Amscot is the City’s listed cash-payment option.
View bills, make a one-time payment, manage AutoPay and sign up for electronic bill notices.
Use the 24-hour automated system. Press 1 for payment, enter the 7-digit account number followed by #, then follow the payment prompts.
Make checks or money orders payable to City of Tampa Utilities and include the 7-digit account number and service address.
The City lists Amscot as its in-person cash-payment option. Amscot may charge an additional service fee.
After opening the payment-options page
- Choose online, AutoPay, mail, phone or in-person payment.
- If paying online, follow the City’s Customer Self-Service Portal link.
- Have your 7-digit utility account number ready.
- Check the “PAY NEW CHARGES BY” date on the upper-right portion of your bill.
- Remember that payments made after 7 p.m. post the next business day.
- Keep the confirmation until the payment appears correctly on the account.
AutoPay: Do Not Stop Paying Too Early
City of Tampa AutoPay can draft a checking or savings account on the due date. The City does not charge for AutoPay, although your bank may have its own fee.
Enrollment can take 4-6 weeks. Continue paying normally until your monthly bill shows the message that an automatic bank payment is scheduled.
Tampa Utilities Customer Portal Login and Registration
New users need three pieces of information before registering: the 7-digit account number, the account name exactly as the City stores it, and the billing ZIP Code.
City instructions use the format Jones, Mary, not Mary Jones.
Enter the business name as it appears on the utility account rather than a personal contact name.
After opening the customer portal
- Choose registration if you have not created online access yet.
- Enter the 7-digit utility account number found near the top center of the bill.
- Enter the residential name as last name, first name, or use the registered business name.
- Enter the billing ZIP Code connected with the account.
- Create the password and email information requested by the portal.
- After registration, use the account to view bills, pay, manage AutoPay or choose paperless billing.
Before Opening an Account: Check Who Actually Serves the Address
“Tampa utilities” does not always mean one provider. The City provides drinking water and wastewater to customers inside Tampa and to parts of unincorporated Hillsborough County and Temple Terrace.
City solid waste has a narrower service area: it is available only within Tampa city limits south of Fowler Avenue, excluding the University of South Florida and New Tampa areas.
Some properties in unincorporated Hillsborough County receive City of Tampa drinking water.
A property can receive City water while wastewater is handled by another provider.
The City’s utilities guide identifies Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas as separate non-City utility providers.
After opening the City utilities page
- Use the service-availability address search.
- Check water, wastewater and solid-waste providers separately.
- If another utility serves part of the property, note that provider before starting or stopping City service.
- If the result is unclear, call 813-274-8811 and give the exact property address.
Start or Stop City of Tampa Utility Service
If the property already has a water meter, you can request new service online through Tampa Connect or by phone. The City says to allow up to five business days for start-service requests to be processed.
- Exact service address
- Requested start or stop date
- Customer contact information
- Provider check for water, sewer and solid waste
- Deposit information if required
- Forwarding address when stopping service
After opening the start-service page
- Confirm that a water meter already exists at the property.
- Check the service provider for water, wastewater and solid waste.
- Use Tampa Connect to submit the request, or call 813-274-8811.
- Allow up to five business days for processing.
- When the account is created, keep the 7-digit account number sent by email or provided by phone.
- Use that number to register for online account access.
Deposit Waiver: Good Credit History Can Matter
Tampa requires a deposit when opening a utility account, with the amount varying by account type and meter size. A new customer may request a deposit waiver by providing a qualifying letter of good credit from another utility within 30 days of the original request.
The City’s published standard requires 12 consecutive months of history with no service disconnection for a delinquent bill, no returned check for nonpayment, and no more than one delinquent payment.
After opening the stop-service page
- Submit the stop request through Tampa Connect or call 813-274-8811.
- Provide the requested move-out date.
- Give a forwarding address so the City can send the final bill.
- If the property has multiple utility providers, contact every provider shown on your bills.
- Allow up to five business days for processing.
Restore Tampa Water Service After Non-Payment
Water restoration has a specific process. Do not assume that making an online payment automatically sends a technician.
The City lists this fee after service is disconnected for non-payment.
The City’s restoration page lists a separate $40 unlock fee that appears on the next bill.
After opening the restoration page
- Confirm the overdue amount required for restoration.
- Use an eligible fast-posting payment method.
- Call 813-274-8811 after payment during normal business hours.
- Provide the payment confirmation when requested.
- Turn all faucets off and wait for the City’s restoration process.
High Bill, Leak Adjustment and Payment Assistance
Tampa says unexpectedly high bills are usually connected to either increased water use or a private-property leak. Start by comparing the meter reading with the reading printed on the bill.
Call 813-274-8811 and ask the City to review or reread the meter.
The City identifies toilets and irrigation equipment among common sources of unexpectedly high use.
Keep paid repair invoices, materials receipts and the repair date before submitting a request.
Leak Adjustment Checklist
- Completed Water/Wastewater Leak Adjustment Request Form
- Current utility account number
- Service address and daytime phone number
- Paid plumber invoice or paid parts receipts
- Description of what was repaired
- Date the leak was repaired
Submitting a request does not guarantee a credit. The City’s form also tells customers to continue paying their normal average monthly bill while the adjustment request is being reviewed.
Official Tampa High Utility Bill HelpAfter opening the high-bill page
- Compare the meter reading with the reading printed on the bill.
- Check toilets, faucets, irrigation equipment, hoses and private plumbing for leaks.
- Repair the problem before requesting an adjustment.
- Keep paid invoices or receipts as proof of repair.
- Submit the adjustment through Tampa Connect or by the method listed by the City.
Payment Extensions and Customer Assistance Program
If the problem is affordability rather than incorrect usage, request help before the account is interrupted. Tampa offers payment extensions and monthly payment plans through the customer portal or Utilities Call Center.
The City’s Customer Assistance Program (CAP) waives monthly water and wastewater base charges for qualifying account holders. The current program page says households may apply if they fall within the applicable 50% area median income limit, which is updated annually.
Tampa also offers a solid-waste residential discount for qualifying customers age 65 or older when solid waste is provided by the City.
Official Tampa Utility Payment Assistance ProgramsAfter opening the assistance page
- Use payment arrangements first if you mainly need more time to pay.
- Review CAP if your household may meet the current income rules.
- Use the City’s application route rather than sending financial documents to this website.
- If approved for CAP, follow the water-conservation and annual recertification requirements.
- Customers 65 or older with City solid waste should also review the senior residential discount.
Tampa Residential Water and Wastewater Rates Through September 30, 2026
Tampa uses tiered water pricing, so the price per ccf rises as household consumption increases. One ccf equals 748 gallons.
The rates below are from the City’s residential schedule effective October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026. A new rate schedule may take effect October 1, so verify rates if you are reading this page after that date.
Inside City. The corresponding outside-City water base charge is $10.
The FY26 single-family wastewater base charge is $10 outside City limits.
The corresponding outside-City residential wastewater rate is $7.23 per ccf.
After opening the rates page
- Use the residential or non-residential schedule that matches your account.
- Check whether the service address is inside or outside Tampa city limits.
- Match your water usage to the appropriate consumption tier.
- Review the meter-size base charge separately from the usage charge.
- Check for a newer schedule after September 30, 2026.
Tampa Water Restrictions in 2026
Tampa normally enforces one-day-per-week outdoor watering year-round. Under the current Modified Phase III Extreme shortage order, additional restrictions have applied since April 3, 2026.
Home car washing is currently limited to the property’s designated watering day and requires a hose with an automatic shutoff nozzle. Tampa also says irrigation should be curtailed when sufficient rain has fallen during the prior 24 hours.
The City enforces water restrictions year-round and says citations can be issued on the first observed violation.
Official Tampa Watering Days & HoursAfter opening the watering-rules page
- Find the last digit of the property’s street address.
- Match it to the City’s designated weekday.
- Check the current allowed hours because drought restrictions can change them.
- Review separate rules for hand watering, car washing and new landscaping.
- Recheck the page before watering if regional drought conditions have recently changed.
